If you can bear to tear yourself away from our gorgeous apartments and the brilliant entertainment that we provide in your room, then why not take some time to explore the city of Leeds?

One of the most popular trips when staying in our apartments, is to the fantastic theatre productions taking place in various locations around the city. You can’t beat a bit of live action, and Leeds certainly provides all the fun and excitement you would wish for from a musical or play.

There are a few places around the city that you can find a performance, including:

Leeds Grand Theatre & Opera House

Situated on New Briggate, this theatre was built in 1878 in retaliation of the music hall tradition, which was seen to “lower the tone” of entertainment. The theatre took just over a year to build and cost approximately £62,000 (the equivalent of £2,995,220.00 in this day and age!). If you are interested in learning more about the history of this building then tours of the theatre are available.
Coming up in July:
- Inside Opera Special
- Priscilla
- Joseph
- Noises Off

The Carriageworks

In a prime location for the city centre, The Carriageworks can be found on Millennium Square. With a combination of musicals, plays, dances and community events, there is most definitely something for everyone. Consisting of two theatres and six rehearsal rooms, The Carriageworks has only been open since 2005, where it has continuously supported local talent and been the home of Leeds Civic Arts Guild.
Coming up in July:
- Churchill
- Lafay’s Space Odyssey
- Carmen
- Bubble

City Varieties Music Hall

Originally built back in 1865, it was created as an extension to the White Swan Inn on Swan Street, and is hugely significant these days as a living illustration of a Victorian Music Hall. Initially, the City Varieties passed hands quite regularly and changed names numerous times, but it has now remained almost completely unchanged since the late 19th century.
Coming up in July:
- Beyond The Barricade
- Grand Union Orchestra – Trading Roots
- City Varieties Theatre Tour
- CVYT Presents Little Shop Of Horrors

West Yorkshire Playhouse

With both a national and international reputation for being one of Britain’s most exciting producing theatres, the West Yorkshire Playhouse consists of two theatres. Since opening back in 1990, the Playhouse continues to lead the way with its community work and educational ambitions for the rest of the theatre industry. Located very close to the bus station, this award winning playhouse is a must if you are visiting Leeds.
Coming up in July:
- Raising The Game
- A Celebration of Gospel Music
- Ooh La La It’s Bollywood
- Girls Like That

As you can see there is plenty to see and get involved in at a variety of locations around Leeds, but just in case theatre isn’t your thing, you can always come back to your room and relax with some DVDs and your in-room PlayStation!
